Handcrafted in US the Heirloom French Staunton Chess Set is made of walnut and maple hardwood chessboard paired with very unique chess pieces to suit the entire chess lover’s out there and to fit for all age’s kids or adults. French Staunton wooden chess pieces are handcrafted that features a felt bottom to avoid any scratches and damage during the play and to also have a better experience when using these types of chess set. The chess board is included in the package that is hand-crafted from Pennsylvania that is made from locally sourced premium walnut and maple woods. From drying and curing the woods with special cutting to the final grooves, beveled edge, engraving, and the multiple finishes that gives it the trademark luxurious and distinguishably smooth surface every chess board takes up to how many months to create. Over many months, Raphael created this chessboard model inspired by Drueke’s obsolete works. It has become a remarkable showpiece and platform for any set of chess pieces one owns that are suitably sized, usually 3 3/4″ tall on average. All in all there are 32 chess pieces plus 2 extra queens to use in any special occasion or any special pawn promotion that totals with 34 chess pieces with green felt at the bottom to protect the playing surface.

Care Instructions:

Avoid prolonged direct exposure to sunlight which can affect the color of finished woods. The chess board can be cleaned with a soft, non-abrasive cloth to remove dust. Due to the living nature of woods, with change in humidity the chessboard may warp ever so slightly for a time. This can be reversed by storing the board vertically for a time with equal exposure of air to both the surface and underside of the board.

French Lardy Series Chess set is a full tournament-sized chess set which included chess pieces but sold separately with the chess boards that are made from high quality materials. The King chess pieces measures 3.75″ with a base diameter of 1.5″, hand crafted by master artisan with materials of high quality grade woods that also features luxurious billiard cloth base pads that gives the right balance and add some weight to each chess pieces. All in all it consists 32 chess pieces including extra 2 Queens making it all 4 Queens, this standard is introduced The House of Staunton in 1993. Chess board is sold separately but recommended chess board size is 2.25″ inch / 5.7 cm, 2.375″ inch / 6.0 cm.

Lardy was a prolific French chess set manufacturer, situated in Dortan in the French Jura, which ceased operations  in the late 1980s due to pressure from the onslaught of low quality chess sets flooding the marked by Indian manufacturers operating from grim, make-shift factories in the Amritsar region. They ranged in size from the small set with a 2-3/4” King, to large Club-size sets with King heights over 4-3/4”. From the 1930s through the early 1970s, Lardy dominated the Chess set market, selling massive numbers of chess sets to the USA and England, where they were commercialized by brands such as Cavalier, Drueke, Lowe, Sterling and others. Molds of the Lardy chessmen were the basis for the ubiquitous “Club Special” plastic chessmen found in every chess club and tournament throughout the World.
